Alexander Rae Baldwin Sr. was an American businessman and philanthropist. He was born on October 26, 1927, in New York City, and he died on April 15, 1983, in Massapequa, New York. Baldwin was the son of a wealthy businessman and inherited his father's business after his death in 1953. He expanded the business, which was involved in timber and real estate, and built it into a major corporation. Baldwin was also involved in politics and ran for Governor of New York in 1966, but he was not successful. He was married to Carol M. Martineau, and they had five children, including actors Alec, Daniel, and William Baldwin.
